The “Golm II student residence” project, located on the campus of the University of Potsdam in the Golm district, marks a significant milestone in the development of student housing in the region. The ceremonial laying of the foundation stone on 15 April 2024, which was attended by Science Minister Dr. Manja Schüle and others, marked the start of construction of this modern residential complex, which is due to be completed by the winter semester 2025/26.
The new hall of residence will offer a total of 423 residential places, including over 200 individual apartments and various shared apartment formats. Particular emphasis was placed on accessibility, so that wheelchair-accessible residential units and family apartments were also created. With a net floor area of 14,500 m² and a sustainable construction method that includes photovoltaic systems, heat pumps and a gray water system for water treatment, the project sets new standards in terms of energy efficiency and environmental friendliness.
The project is being implemented under the management of the Studentenwerk Potsdam, which is responding to the growing demand for affordable student accommodation with this building project. The project is being financed largely by funding from the state of Brandenburg, with the Ministry of Science, Research and Culture and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Planning jointly providing almost 37 million euros.
“Golm II student residence” is an example of successful cooperation between public institutions and construction companies to meet the challenges of the tight housing market and offer students a modern, affordable home. It is a further example of the innovative strength and commitment with which high-quality construction projects are being realized in Potsdam’s dynamic cityscape.
